Personal Failure: Not Keeping Up My Posting Schedule

Conventional blogging wisdom tells us that it’s a good idea to write posts in advance so we can schedule them to show up regularly in your inbox, rss feed, or twitter stream.

Short of that, it’s a good idea to have a few mostly finished posts that can be tweaked and uploaded quickly, for those times when there’s just not anything new to put out there.

The point is, consistency. People love it, so as a blogger, you’re advised to encourage it.

Did I fail at maintaining consistency this last week. Yes, yes I did.

But, unless we fail, we can’t learn. So, back into the breach I go; maybe this time I’ll learn to write and schedule in advance so my posting schedule doesn’t fall through when life gets a little busier than anticipated. 😀

Personal Joy: I got to meet my nephew

The holidays, of course, account for part of how busy I was and why I didn’t keep up with posting. But it’s not as though I didn’t know they were coming. I mean, they happen the same time every year.

This year, however, just after Christmas, my youngest sister and my 7-week old nephew ended up getting rerouted through Denver on their way to Ohio due to some crazy weather on the West Coast, where she lives. It was a whirlwind stop, since we (my middle sister and I) picked her and her little one up at the airport at 11 pm, didn’t get to sleep that evening until 1:30 am, and had to have her back at the airport by 8 am, with a stop at our Grandmothers’ houses so they could meet the little one, too.

Needless to say, it was an exhausting day, and as much as I enjoyed seeing my little sister (she lives too far away, dammit) and meeting my nephew, it took me about five days to catch up.

Professional Success: I landed my dream job

A week after my sister came through, I was scheduled to have a second interview with a company that teaches personal finance to high school and college students. Talk about the perfect gig. Less than two months ago, I was telling my husband that I would be thrilled to find someone to pay me to do just that.

Long story short: I got the job. I start on the 10th. Words cannot express how excited I am.

All those things, the holidays and normal family obligations included, lead me to this post, which I’m uploading out of schedule on a Wednesday.

If all goes according to plan, we’ll be right back on schedule on Thursday.

Thanks for sticking with me.
