Update: Summer II So Far

CIS 6400 – Business Analytics

I love this class. We’re learning how to do some fun and fancy things in Excel right now, and pretty soon we’ll be moving on to an overview of Big Data, which is apparently the “next big thing.” The professor says there’s a lot of new tools that semi-educated lay people can use to analyze a lot of data, and I’m excited to learn about it.

ACTY 4110 – Advanced Accounting

I’ve already taken a version of this class, but the refreshing is good as I start to think about sitting for the FAR section of the CPA exam. In addition, it gets me government and non-profit, which allows me to sit for the CPA exam.

ACTY 6100 – Financial Accounting and Reporting

After a slight snag where I didn’t have the book for the first two (of fourteen) class periods, things are going well enough in this class. I am feeling a little frustrated because I am not picking up on things as quickly as the rest of my classmates. Not for the first time, I wish my Intermediate Financial Accounting class wasn’t so accelerated. I did talk to my professor about the fact that I’m a little rocky on some of the foundational stuff we’re discussing, and he reassured me that I should be okay. Since I’m taking this review course with Wiley, and I’m planning to use Becker to study, he said that should be plenty to get me through the exam. And I still have my Intermediate Financial Accounting textbook, which he said I should refer to as necessary for refresher.

But otherwise, the class is great. The professor is fun, I have a great team that I’m working with on our team projects, and one way or another, I’m learning a lot.

Five weeks left.
