Of New Bloggers, Being Done with Grad School, and Upcoming Hurdles

New Bloggers

So, by now you’ve all met Jenny, who is a good friend of mine, and awesome. She’s just starting her masters degree in accounting, and I am very excited for her.

Being Done with Grad School

I, on the other hand, am DONE. As you possibly gathered from the title of this post. As of 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2015, I walked out of my last final exam for my last class of grad school.

*deep sigh of relief*

Of course, my journey to becoming a CPA isn’t over. Getting my masters degree was simply the first of three hurdles. But have one of them done and out of the way is a huge relief.

Upcoming Hurdles

Hurdles 2 and 3 are passing the CPA Exam, and accruing enough hours working as an accountant to be granted a CPA license.

Hurdle 2

Today I logged into my Becker account for the first time and set up my study schedule. Based on studying 25-30 hours per week (*gulp*), Becker’s scheduler thinks I should take the Exam in the third week of October:

FAR Study Schedule

Ideally, I’d like to take it the last week of October, but I haven’t received my Notice-to-Schedule (NTS) from NASBA yet, so I figure it’s better to play it safe by planning to take the test a little earlier, since that might be the only time that’s available to schedule. If I end up being able to take it at the end of October, that’d be great.

The other option would be to study 13-15 hours a week, which would have me taking the exam in the third week of November. I could do that, but for personal reasons, I’d rather have it done by the end of October if I can. But that means studying 4+ hours a day, which is totally doable if I don’t have a job; I’m just really hoping to have at least a temporary position in the next week or so. *fingers crossed* And I plan to be participating in the CPA firm recruiting season on campus starting the second week of September…

Whoa. I just realized this Fall is going to be kind of crazy busy. I guess I shouldn’t be terribly surprised. I can’t remember the last stretch of time that I wasn’t crazy busy doing one thing or another.

Wish me luck!
